Agriculture and Natural Resources Division

Our consultancies in ANR range from projects on horticulture, environmental studies, to biotechnology and effects of global warming. In house expertise allow us to provided services on biodiversity related activities such as habitat mapping in protected areas to carryout EIAs and IEEs for Urban Development Projects.

Comprehensive environmental impact assessment is one of our strengths in the division. We also offer environmental monitoring programs for projects implemented in environmentally sensitive areas for sustainability of the project and the existing ecosystems.

We are also proud to claim that we have an expert team to consult - deliver any given task in GIS related application. Another main area that we have experience is in consultations on CDM.

Our efficient, punctual staff is ready and willing to be at service for the betterment of the sustainable development while protecting the environment.

What is done by the division


1. Agriculture, Irrigation and Natural Resources Management

In the area of horticulture EML has undertaken projects in guiding growers on floriculture projects for beginners and ongoing projects providing technical know-how, preparing proposals for bank loans, assisting financially through banks and by providing extension services.

2. Environmental Reviews and Monitoring reports

Our projects extend to the areas of environmental reviewing and monitoring in sensitive areas for continuous sustainability of a healthy ecosystem while intelligent utilization of resources is encouraged.

3. Environmental Action Plans

ANR division has undertaken EIA studies of some major projects. The nature of these projects have allowed us to display our talents in examining evaluation and recommending adaptation and mitigation measures to prevent destruction of eco - systems in project initiations that are much needed for sustainability development in the country. Proven track record of our services has included us in the recommended consultants’ lists in the approving agency.

4. CDM Project Development under C-trading

As a new concept to the whole world, CDM needs a lot of consultation in initiating projects from the point of identifying the suitability of the project to quality for CDM to filling out the necessary documents. EML can proudly claim to be pioneers in Sri Lanka to offer such services,. We also have contributed in assessing the current situation in relation to global warming and the adaptation and mitigation measures implemented in Sri Lanka and to formulate policy and institutional framework for CDM activities.

5. GIS and Remote Sensing

Expertise in GIS is proven and well established by work such as mapping of up-country plantations, coastal belt of the entire Sri Lanka and conducting training classes. GIS skills also have been used in many other projects such as EIAs, IEEs., City and Tourism Planning Projects to benefit better planning with geological precision .

6. Tourism Development

Our goal is to help promote tourism with close attention to protect the environment and to obtain the maximum benefit of the resources available. One such project has been undertaken to develop a tourism plan for the municipal council area of Kurunagala.

7. Forestry and Wildlife Management

We have experience in carrying out projects in Biodiversity Conservation within and outside protected area system and designing an effective protected area network for Sri Lanka with recommendations on new approaches in biodiversity conservation.

We also have utilized the expertise of mapping for studying biodiversity of habitat diversity in seven selected protected areas in wildlife sector, namely Bundale National Part, Minneriya National Park, Uda Walawe National Park, Wasgamuwa National Park, Minneriya National Park, Horton Plains National Park, Ritigala Strict National Reserve and Peak Wilderness Sanctuary.
